Notes/Race History: Car was delivered to a South Bend, IN. Chevrolet dealer’s son (last name Menz), who immediately took off the knock-off wheels, removed the windshield and entered a hill climb race. Within a year he obtained his competition license and road raced the car in the S.C.C.A. Central Ohio and Chicago Regions. Never registered as a street car. He then sold the car in 1967 to two partners, Bob Barnes and Howard Parks who were part of the TURTLE RACERS. The car ran the Daytona 24 hours in 1967 and 1968. The fenders were flared, a 350 LT-1 type engine with a carburetor replaced the original fuel injected 327. It was then painted Kelly Green and raced extensively. Painted white with blue stripes, it wound up in open storage until 1984 when Lowell McGuire bought it. He gave the car a splashy Red/White/Blue paint job, numbered the #1, and entered it in S.C.C.A. autocross events in Topeka KS., until 1988. Dave Rex bought the car at Corvette Expo in Spring of 1990. Dave listed it in AUTOWEEK in October 1991, and Chris Wickersham brought it back to California and removed the flared fenders, installed a correct 327/375hp fuel injection engine as original, painted it Nassau Blue and vintage raced it at H.M.S.A. and Monterey Historic events from ’93 thru ’98. The car was sold in ’98 and raced in V.A.R.A . events.

UPDATE as of 10-2010. The 327 engine was replaced with a 350 LT-1 type. Racing today with the fuel injection unit, big racing seat, aftermarket gauges. Painted red, seen at the 2010 Coronado Speed Festival, race #26, driven by Doug Manista from Newport Beach, CA.
