Ferrari has always been a master of the two-seat grand tourer. From its early days wrapping elegant coachwork around its spartan 166 and 212 chassis to modern times with large V12 engines and endless high tech amenities, if you want to cover long distances quickly and in style, Maranello has always had you covered.
The 575M was introduced in 2002 as an update of the smashingly successful 550. While keeping the exterior styling strikingly similar to the 550, the 575 was massively improved in many key areas. For starters, the 575 was given a larger more powerful engine and bigger brakes to help contain the added punch. The suspension was updated as well as the aerodynamics to help round out the package. In 2005, the Superamerica version was introduced as a limited run of 559 retractable hardtop variants of the 575. Along with the sleek and innovative folding mechanism of the hardtop, the power was pumped up to 533hp from the standard 508hp. Ferrari marketed the Superamerica as the worlds fastest convertible, with a claimed top speed of 199mph. The bulk of the 559 Ferrari Superamericas produced were delivered with the six-speed Magneti Marelli Electrohydraulic manual “F1” gearbox, with only 43 being produced with the highly coveted 6-speed manual gearbox. The 575 would be replaced by the 599 in 2006.
This particular Ferrari 575 Superamerica, chassis number ZFFGT61A150143323, is a 2005 model year with 38,684 miles from new and is finished in black (Nero) with black interior. This car was optioned with the highly desirable GTC package (a $21,000 option) as well as ‘Scuderia Ferrari’ shields and a high power hi-fi 6 CD changer. Despite the indicated miles, the car presents extremely well and has been maintained and cared for thoroughly. This Superamerica has a clean Carfax showing two previous owners. It was sold new out of Ferrari of Seattle, Washington and spent a bulk of its life there. During its first ownership, this Superamerica had the folding glass top replaced under warranty.
There are numerous service records from its time in Seattle until it was offered for sale in January of 2016 with an indicated 35,802 miles on the odometer. The car was then sold to its second owner who resided in California. The second owner had the nose, and rear bumper correctly repainted (receipts present), and a clear bra installed. Both owners maintained fastidious service records during their ownership, all of which are included with the car. The car was always serviced at Ferrari Dealerships or certified shops and the records back this up. The vehicle is being offered with a fresh 30K service just completed, new tires and new factory windshield all of which was just completed by a very reputable shop with records to support the work.
The engine bay presents very well, especially for the mileage. There is no evidence of any leaking, dried or cracked components all thanks to the thorough servicing the car has received throughout its lifetime.
The trunk area is clean and tidy with tight-fitting carpets free of any wear. The tools and air pump are stored neatly in their compartment hidden away under the pull-up stowage cover.
The engine fires right to life with a quick turn of the key. Once warm, the RPM’s fall and hold at a good level. Throttle response feels good especially when already moving to mitigate the response from the slightly sluggish transmission technology. A 30K service was just completed by us so mechanically the engine should be ready for thorough enjoyment.
The transmission is issue free and performs just as one of these F1 gearboxes is expected too. Under slow speeds, it feels clunky and slow which is totally normal but as you build speed and get the car moving the transmission shifts smoother with more direct and decisive. Under acceleration and load is where these F1 transmissions shine and feel the best. In order to really appreciate the technology, the car must be driven spiritedly.
Brakes & Suspension
The brakes feel tight and responsive, easily pulling the car down to a smooth and controlled stop. There is no chatter, vibration or unwanted noises present. The suspension is tight and compliant with no issues to note.
The tires are brand new and were just replaced by us. They are Bridgestone Potenza RE-050A 255/35ZR19 in the front and 305/30ZR19 in the rear.
Included with the car are all the factory manuals and books, toolkit, air pump, service records as well as the original window sticker.
