This is a very early Ferrari built in late 1950 and sold to its first owner Frederico Munz of Milan/Italy in March of 1951. Frederico Munz raced the car at the Coppa Inter Europa at Monza in April of 1951. It was also registered in the 1951 Mille Miglia with race number 409 but did start.
Frederico Munz sold this 195 Inter Vignale Coupe already in June of 1951 to André Canoncia of Geneva who raced it at an airfield race the same year.
In 1952 the Ferrari was sold to the United States where it was first registered in Florida before finding it’s way to Zumbach’s Garage in New York. In 1955t the Ferrari was sadly badly damaged in a garage fire destroying the original Vignale body and the engine.
In the early 1980’s the chassis was sold as a project to England and efforts were made to shorten the chassis.
Eventually the chassis, meanwhile shortened and fitted with the second body of another 195 Ferrari (Chassis 0024M) were sold to Lord Charles Brocket in the UK. Lord Brocket, who built an impressive sports car collection, completely restored the car and won 1st in class during the 1993 Louis Vuitton Concours and Best of Show at the Ferrari Owners Club Concours at Goodwood.
Lord Brocket entered the Ferrari in February, 1994 at a Christie’s auction where it failed to sell. Lord Brocket sold the car shortly after in March of 1994 to Germany. The 195 Inter Vignale Coupe participated in 1997 during the Ferrari 50th Anniversary Meeting at Rome and Maranello, Italy.
Now owned by a collector from Greenwich, Connecticut it has been shown successfully in 2016 at the Concours-on-the-Avenue in Carmel, California and The Quail.
This year the Ferrari was on display at The Breakers Hotel during the Cavallino Classic and won an award at the Classic & Sports Sunday at Mar-a-Lago in January. It just won Best of Show at The Hamptons Concours d’Elegance in July 2022.
These successful Concours showings prove the wonderful quality of this very unique Mille Miglia eligible Ferrari.
