Description
1994 Aston Martin Vantage V550 Twin Supercharged. Brute in a suit were the words used more than once to described the fastest Aston Martin ever on its introduction in 1993, the Vantage had no less than 550bhp available to propel its mass of two tons, the choice of words can only be judged fair comment.

Aston Martins V8 was updated for the 1990s as the new Virage. A consummate fast tourer, the Virage left room for a range topping sports car, the Vantage.

Although the two models appear similar few panels are shared, while beneath the skin the Vantage chassis boasts the kind of extensive re-engineering required to cope with the massive increase in performance. The latter comes courtesy of a blown version of Astons 5,340cc V8, twin mechanically driven Eaton superchargers being preferred to turbos. Adding to the high power is high torque producing 550lb/ft at 4,000rpm.

On test with Autocar magazine the Vantage achieved a 0-60mph in 4.6 seconds and managed 100mph in a blistering quick 5.5 seconds, remarkable performance for that era.

The ultimate in classic luxury motoring.
