The SLS marked AMG's transformation into a true sub-brand, and there was no finer way to showcase its newfound independence than with a modern interpretation of the iconic 300 SL. From the outset, the SLS AMG delivered on every front with an AMG-built 6.2-liter V8 up front, a rear-mounted dual-clutch transaxle, and a cabin wrapped in rich leather and modern Mercedes-Benz luxuries. It was a grand tourer in the truest sense, equal parts a precision sporting machine and long-legged cruiser. In 2011, AMG expanded the formula with the SLS AMG Roadster. By replacing the Coupe's signature gullwing doors with a folding convertible soft top, just like the 300 SL had done nearly over five decades earlier. The soft top added a mere 40 kg, but its impact was easily erased by the 571 PS lurking beneath that long hood. The result was a car every bit as fast with zero to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds, but with a soundtrack that now filled the open cabin, accompanied by thoughtful details like the AIRSCARF system for year-round comfort. More than a convertible, it was the SLS refined for real-world touring, its grand touring credentials made all the more compelling by the open sky above. The accompanying clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report shows that this SLS AMG Roadster was sold new by Mercedes-Benz of San Jose, California. Finished in Obsidian Black Metallic over a Classic Red designo Exclusive leather interior, it was optioned with the burnished Titanium Grey AMG five-twin-spoke alloy wheels, AMG high-performance ceramic composite brakes, AMG performance steering wheel in nappa leather and Alcantara, and the Bang & Olufsen sound system. This striking and well-appointed example remained in sun-soaked California until April 2018, where after a short succession of four owners, it was exported to Germany. While in Germany, the SLS has remained under the care of just a single owner. Shortly after returning to Germany, the car underwent a comprehensive service, totaling nearly €18.000, which included new European market headlights and taillights, refinishing of the bumpers to correct minor imperfections, servicing of the climate control system, TÜV approval, and more. This was followed by a €2.000 service in August 2025 that included an “A Service” in addition to replacing the spark plugs, engine oil, transmission oil, brake fluid, and the engine air filter. In preparation for sale in late September 2025, it received a fresh set of Michelin Pilot Sport tires and an alignment for nearly €4.200. As a result, the car presents beautifully today and displays approximately 26,500 kilometers at the time of consignment. Beyond being a modern rendition of the fabled 300 SL Roadster, the SLS remains a compelling offering with iconic styling, pure bred sporting prowess, and a rich history that has continued to capture the imagination of modern sports car enthusiasts who are lucky enough to find themselves behind the wheel.
