The Mercedes-Benz R 170 is a two-seater roadster from the first SLK series, which was produced from autumn 1996 to early 2004. It was the first Mercedes-Benz convertible to be equipped with a fixed, fold-down steel roof. This folding steel roof, also known as a folding hardtop or vario roof, disappears completely and automatically into the vehicle's boot.
Because it is made of steel, it combines the advantages of a hardtop with the flexibility of a folding roof. This makes the SLK both a roadster and a coupe. In the R 170 model series, the vario-roof folds out of the boot in 25 seconds. This reduces the boot space with the roof open from 348 litres to 145 litres. The manufacturer of the hardtop was the company Car Top Systems.
A total of 311.222 units of the R 170 were built, making it the best-selling roadster in Germany, ahead of the Mazda MX-5.
This SLK presented here is a 230 Kompressor with 193 hp and a top speed of 231 km/h and therefore has sufficient power to keep up well. This car is an original Dutch delivery with manual transmission but has stood still for some time and therefore only 28.000 km driven!! Under the hood you see an almost new engine. Then the car had a major service during which new tires were mounted, a new fuel pump was installed and the brake discs and pads were replaced. Furthermore, the timing belt was replaced and the folding roof repaired. Now there is almost a new car ready for the buyer with really only 28.000 km!!
