The VW Golf II was manufactured over a period of nine years. From its launch in September 1983 until the factory shutdown in August 1987, the Golf II was built with its distinctive triangular window and the familiar window pillar. The wing mirrors were also positioned further back, at the same height as the window pillar. Furthermore, the front grille had seven slats. From September 1987, the window pillars were removed and the wing mirrors were moved further forward.
