The story behind this collectible...

51 years ownership - 1 of 57 - Original Colour Combination

Just after the Second World War, BMW was the first to introduce the 501 Limousine. It came with a 6-cylinder, and the engineers soon discovered that they had to dig deeper into their arsenal to compete. At the Geneva Motor Show, BMW launched the 502, the first post-war BMW with a V8. Not only was the BMW faster than its predecessor and competitors, with a top speed of 160 km/h, but it was also more luxurious in every respect.

If you were really high up in the 1950s and wanted a convertible, you went to the Baur body shop. Since 1910, this has been the place where owners of luxury versions of Mercedes-Benz, Maybach and Horch could take their car to the next level and customize it completely to their wishes.

Our copy is very special! One of only 57 two-door convertibles ever produced, originally supplied by Baur at the well-known BMW dealer in Cologne, Bischof & Co. Delivered in GrauGrün with a green leather interior. With only three owners, the last of whom cherished her with care for 51 years. This is truly a rarity in automotive history… and we don't say that often!
