To give European manufacturers a bit of a hard time in the then-popular sports car market, Datsun came up with the Fairlady in the late 1950s, an elegant convertible that was supposed to chase mainly Fiat, Alfa Romeo, MG and Triumph. The name was the idea of the then president/chairman of Nissan, Katsuji Kawamata san, who had seen the musical My Fairlady in New York and was so impressed by it that he decided he had found the name for his car.The example offered here is from later series and already features the 1600cc technology. Like most of the 'ladies' built, this example too was delivered new in America and in the state of California. Thanks to the favourable climate, this Datsun was very well preserved and both chassis and bodywork are pristine and hard. The green metallic paintwork looks nice and the body has a neat fit. Only a few years ago, the interior was taken care of, with upholstery of floor, seats and doors being renewed. The so-called 'weather equipment' also comes in excellent condition with an almost new soft top and tonneau cover. Despite a 40,000 copies sold of the Datsun Fairlady, they are hard to find and with the increasing popularity of Japanese classics, it is an interesting investment. Since 1974 only 1 owner. This car has a Nl licence plate/registration.
