Chassis No. 07701 Engine No. 07701 (internal no. 826/64) Balanced and harmonious, with its rises in revs and power delivery, yet also a true technical challenge with high production costs, the V12, often reserved for sports and luxury cars, is intimately linked to the Prancing Horse brand. Today, more than half a century later, it still powers the latest Ferrari Icona models (Daytona SP3 and Monza SP1/SP2), as well as LaFerrari and the Enzo. Its versatility opens up a wide range of possibilities, as it has powered Formula One cars, endurance racers, and road-going sports cars alike. From its very first model, the 125 S, Ferrari turned to Gioachino Colombo to design its first V12. Iconic, the Colombo V12 went on to power numerous victorious Ferraris, including the 166 MM, the 365 GTB/4, and the 250 GTO, three-time World Sportscar Champion. Selected to equip the brand’s new open model, following the discontinuation of the 250 GT California two years earlier, the Colombo V12 with dual overhead camshafts, 3.3 liters of displacement and three twin-choke Weber carburetors producing 260 horsepower, paired with a five-speed gearbox, shared with the Berlinetta version, is enhanced by a Spider body styled and, unlike its sister, produced by Pininfarina. Produced for just over a year, from late 1964 to early 1966, the 275 GTS was built in small numbers with around 200 examples produced. Chassis number 07701 is one such Spider, with lines that are as elegant as they are sporty, punctuated by three vents and enhanced by Borrani wheels. Delivered new in October 1965 to the official Ferrari importer Auto Becker in Düsseldorf, Germany, in Grigio Argento with Pelle Nero Franzi interior, and registered by its first owner in April 1966, chassis 07701 is still accompanied by its original Kraftfahrzeugbrief, allowing its successive registrations to be traced. First registered in Bonn by Bernhard C. M. Rayers, a banker, it moved to Wiesbaden in July 1969 with Gerhard Gerbig, a restaurateur, then to Ehrenfeld in the western suburbs of Cologne in June 1970 with Klaus Seifert, an engineer. Lindenthal became its next residence from August 1971 with Andreas Roth, before it returned to its original Bonn in April 1973 with Karl Heinz Bader. The Massini Report on chassis number 07701 tells us that Bader kept the car until 1980, when he entrusted it to Herbert Engel, a car dealer, who presented it at a gathering organized by Auto Becker—its original dealership—at the Nürburgring, where it passed to Ludwig Müller, in Nordheim. Still in Germany, the 275 GTS then spent several years stored away, without being driven, before being registered by Müller’s companion, Monika Genthner, who handed it over to dealer Mario Bernardi in 1999 following the death of her partner. Also a collector and restoration specialist focused on Ferraris from the 1950s and 1960s, for whom quality and originality take precedence, Bernardi undertook the restoration of chassis number 07701 in his workshops. Numerous invoices from around the year 2000 included in the file attest to the parts purchases, servicing, and work carried out at that time. Bernardi subsequently gave the car over to two owners before selling it in March 2004 to Alexander Poscher, who re-registered it and enjoyed it until the end of 2018, when the current owner took possession. Behind the wheel, he participated in several exclusive events such as the Castle Dyck Masterpiece Concours d’Elegance in Germany, the Zoute Rally in Belgium, and the annual Terre di Canossa gathering in Italy. Ferrari 275 GTS chassis number 07701 was submitted to obtain its certificate of authenticity from the Classiche department in Modena, issued on 19 December 2018, with the Ferrari Red Book available for consultation. At that time, the chassis, engine, and body were matching numbers and declared as having undergone no major restoration. The gearbox, of the correct type, had its identification numbers corrected by Ferrari in 2019, while the aluminum Borrani wheels, though not original, were compliant with original specifications. Shortly after obtaining its Classiche certification, the car benefited in 2019 from extensive maintenance at Modena Motorsport in Germany, including replacement of the clutch, fuel pump, and tires, and servicing of the braking system. Its Libretto di Manutenzione Classiche was subsequently stamped on 1 November 2020, for maintenance carried out in Maranello. It also received further care in 2021 at the H. Felten restoration workshop, involving removal of the old paint, preparation and application of the exterior Grigio Ferro color, rust treatment on the chassis, and sealing work. Six floor panels were also replaced. All invoices since 2019 are included and available for review, along with a Dekra inspection dated 2025. In June 2025, an appraisal report, also available for consultation, was carried out by Classic Data, stating that the engine runs smoothly and evenly, the gearbox shifts smoothly, the body panel alignments are perfectly set and the bodywork is free of damage, with door panels in very good condition, a glossy and uniform paint finish, and chrome trim and wheels in good condition with slight signs of normal use. Delivered new in Germany, where it has always remained with its successive chain of known German owners, this rare Ferrari 275 GTS, timelessly elegant with a sporty presence, now awaits its next custodian, its V12 soundtrack recalling the glamour and performance that drew admirers such as Sophia Loren and Steve McQueen to the model.
