Chassis No. 01160 Body No. 206 Spare Engine Block No. 0006261 (internal no. 381) During the five-year production run of the Dino 246 GT, Ferrari introduced a series of thoughtful refinements to its maiden mid-engine sports car, resulting in three distinct series: L, M, and E. The example offered here is an early “M-series” car, one of just 507 examples produced between late 1970 and mid-1971. This series introduced five-bolt wheels, an interior trunk release, seat-mounted headrests, a 30-mm increase in rear track, ATE brakes, among numerous other small improvements. According to Ferrari historian Matthias Bartz, chassis 01160 was completed on 11 November 1970 and delivered to Motor S.a.s. in Bologna. Originally finished in the elegant Rosso Bordeaux (dark red) over a Beige vinyl interior, the car was desirably equipped from new with power windows. After early Italian ownership, the Dino is believed to have spent much of its life in Canada before being relocated to the Netherlands in 2019. In 2025, the car was repatriated to Italy, where it now displays 82,339 kilometers. Today, the car is presented as a largely undisturbed, preservation-grade example. Now wearing a period-appropriate respray in Rosso Dino, the car nevertheless retains an uncommon number of original details, including several "206" body stampings. The interior is equally captivating, featuring its original Beige vinyl upholstery wearing an unmistakable patina, the original "mouse-hair" trimmed dashboard, burnt-orange carpeting, three-spoke MOMO steering wheel, Veglia instrumentation, and a period-correct Blaupunkt stereo. The engine bay currently houses a correct Tipo 135 CS 2.4-liter V6, though the car is offered with its original, matching-numbers engine block (internal number 381, per Bartz's research). This remarkable Dino presents two equally appealing paths forward: mechanical recommissioning for enjoyment in preservation-class Ferrari concours events, or a comprehensive restoration with the reinstallation of the original block for the purist seeking complete originality. Whichever direction the next custodian chooses, this excellent M-series Dino would make a worthy addition to any collection of Ferrari's finest models.
