The Flaminia, unveiled at the 1956 Turin Motor Show, marked the inaugural Lancia design under stewardship of Chief Technical Director Antonio Fessia, filling the sizable hole left by Vittorio Jano in 1955. The new grand tourer featured modern technology such as double wishbone front suspension, while maintaining the proven, all-alloy 2.5-liter OHV V6 engine and sophisticated De Dion rear transaxle with inboard brakes. Among the model's varied coachwork options, the Flaminia GT Convertible was designed by Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera and was identifiable by its four round headlights. The esteemed Milanese coachbuilder produced just 847 Convertibles, all of which featured aluminum bodies with shortened wheelbases.
This 1962 Lancia Flaminia GT Convertible is finished in factory correct Grigio Newmarket over a Pelle Senape interior. The included Dati di Origine build sheet indicates that this example was built on 7 March 1962 and was delivered to Germany. Original registration documents show that this example moved through a handful of local owners in the 1960s, one of whom replaced the original 2.5-liter 3C motor with a more powerful 2.8-liter powerplant from a Flaminia 3C Pininfarina Coupe. The Flaminia was deregistered in 1971 and was preserved in a barn for 42 years until it was discovered in 2014.
Lancia specialists Scuderia Azzura immediately undertook a two-year restoration of the Flaminia, transforming it from a forgotten barn find into the delightful condition it is presented in today. The renowned Cologne, Germany-based shop performed a frame-off restoration of the body, restoring it to “top condition” and focusing on authenticity throughout the restoration; refinishing and reupholstering the car in its current and factory correct specification. Scuderia Azzura comprehensively overhauled the engine, equipping it with new pistons, valves, bearings, and more, as well as revamping the wiring harness.
Remaining in Germany from new, this stunning 1962 Lancia Flaminia Convertible is offered today with its rare, original aluminum Touring hard top, digital copies of its original owner's manual and repair manuals, and detailed album of restoration photos.
Meticulously documented from its remarkable barn-find discovery through a faithful, factory-correct restoration by one of Germany's leading Lancia specialists, this example presents a rare opportunity to acquire one of Lancia's most elegant grand tourers at its very best. Its presentation is further enhanced by its discreetly upgraded 2.8-liter 3C engine, offering improved performance while preserving the car's period character and collector appeal.
