Chassis No. CA30967W155061 Engine No. T1121YN0176 Building on changing consumer preferences in the late 1950s, General Motors introduced the Chevrolet Corvair in 1960 as one of its first "world cars." This meant that while six plants produced the vast majority of Corvairs in its home market of the United States, an additional six plants were spread across three continents. This Monza Convertible is a rarely seen Belgian-built example that was specified with the 2,381-cc, 102-horsepower Turbo-Air 145 air-cooled flat six mated to the optional four-speed manual transmission. Finished in a striking Silver Blue Iridescent (912), it was specified with a Black (712) interior. Willy Maieur of Kortrijk, Belgium is believed to have taken delivery of his new Corvair on 15 March 1963. Owner of the Chevrolet dealership, Willy never registered the car, instead using his dealer plates to drive the car on special occasions. Combining its limited use and exceptional care, the car remained in remarkable original condition when it caught the attention of Allaert in 1986. With just 36,000 kilometers recorded, a deal was struck, and the striking blue Corvair entered Allaert’s collection to remain in his care for the next 40 years, mainly dry-stored on static display. The Corvair was only registered for the first time on 25 March 2022, nearly 59 years later to the day when it was first delivered to Willy in Kortrijk. Since registration, the collectible air-cooled Convertible has seen occasional use, with the odometer now showing just 39,000 kilometers at cataloging. When inspected by the FSP Fahrzeug-Sicherheitsprüfung on 5 November 2014, they noted the car to be in remarkable original condition, still wearing its original, factory-applied Silver Blue Iridescent paint, Black interior, and the convertible top with its soft folding rear window, calling it “perfect, untouched, authentic original condition,” and earning the highest “AAA” rating. Offered by its first registered owner from new, this rare Belgian-built Corvair Monza Convertible is one of the finest and most original examples built in any country of Chevrolet's first ever world car.
