Chassis No. GHNL/95517 Engine No. 16GA-U-H 26720 With its steel bodywork and clean, rounded lines, the MGA brought MG squarely into the modern era while remaining a true stripped-back roadster, complete with snap-in side curtains and lack of exterior door handles. A worldwide favorite from the moment it debuted, the MGA became a defining postwar sports car, one which began a generational love affair with open-top motoring, with approximately 57,000 produced over a seven-year run. Chassis number 95517 is a highly original example of the MGA, delivered new to Belgium and cherished by just two registered owners from new. A letter from British Leyland U.K. Limited confirms that this MGA 1600 Mk I Roadster was completed on 5 July 1960 and fitted with engine number 26720, which it retains today. A British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate (BMIHTC) on file further confirms that the car was finished in Chariot Red over Black trim, and was equipped with wire wheels, a heater, and European-specification headlights. It was supplied new to Mr. André Streignart of Liège, with the original Belgian title on file. In 1964, it was sold by Anciens Établissements D’Ieteren Frères S.A. to Garage Savonnet in Tirlemont, Belgium, before later being sold on, still unregistered, to Auto Vitesse in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. In 1984, the car was purchased by Mr. Allaert, who became only the second registered owner, with original purchase documents accompanying the sale. Over the ensuing four decades, he used the MGA exactly as intended, enjoying extensive touring throughout Europe, including trips to the South of France, Normandy, Luxembourg, the Black Forest, and multiple journeys to the United Kingdom, as well as Ireland. Remarkably, he reports that the car has never suffered a mechanical issue during his stewardship, and it is believed to display its original mileage of 99,178 km. Notably, the MGA retains much of its original Chariot Red paint, save for a partial respray to the right-hand side following battery-acid-related damage while in service. It is further complemented by its original black soft top and interior upholstery, setting chassis 95517 apart as a highly original, authentically presented MGA with a two-owner history of careful, enthusiastic use.
