Chassis No. AR149303358 Engine No. AR131531858 Introduced at the Turin Motor Show in 1954, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Coupe, penned by Franco Scaglione at Bertone, was a supremely elegant motorcar and perfectly suited the requirement for fast but economical motoring in post-war Italy. Although elegant and possessing many of the attributes required for competition, further development was required to fully realize its competitive potential. Alfa Romeo therefore first turned its attention to the 1,290-cc twin-overhead cam four-cylinder engine, whose power increased from 80 to 90 horsepower. With engine power sorted, Alfa Romeo turned to reducing weight and, for competition-minded owners, produced around 600 Alleggerita examples. The Alleggerita—translating to “lightened”—featured Plexiglas rear and side windows, the latter being slide-operated to eliminate the need for a window winding mechanism, and both were framed with lightweight aluminum trim. For the bodywork, lighter steel was used for non-structural panels, and aluminum was again employed for the doors, bonnet, boot lid, and bumpers. The spartan interior featured thinner seats and lacked conveniences such as a glove box, sun visors, soundproofing, or a rear seat. Even the doors were fitted with fixed armrests and net pockets for storage. Overall, these measures yielded a weight saving of roughly 70 kilograms. Further performance enhancements included a floor-shift gear lever and a 65-liter fuel tank, with the option of an 80-liter tank for endurance racing. Aside from dominating its class at the Mille Miglia, the Alleggerita Alfa Romeos claimed class wins at the Tour de France Automobile, the 1,000 km of Nürburgring, and outright victory in the Alpine Rally, to name but a few! Delivered new in Paris on 5 December 1956 and finished in Azzurro Nube according to the accompanying Alfa Romeo Classiche Certificate, the Alleggerita chassis number AR149303358 is presented in its original color with a known and continuous ownership history. In 1958, it was registered in Paris under number 254 GR 75. It was then acquired from Garage Royal by Max Antiocha, who drove it to Saint-Raphaël on the French Riviera, where it carried registration number 788 EW 83, a photocopy of which is included in the file. Romulus Fieschi and then Charles Pemsier succeeded as owners in 1962. The following year, in 1963, the latter entered the car in the Rallye du Var. Roger Plantier subsequently acquired the car and registered it in 1968 in the Isère region, at the foot of the French Alps, under number 9728 VSK 38. A professional mechanic and also a rally driver, he would remain its owner until 2006, when the registration document—a photocopy of which is included in the file—was transferred to Pierre Blanc. The latter sold the car in 2012, when it was registered in Bordeaux. An appraisal report prepared in 2025, available for consultation, lists numerous works carried out during this period of ownership, notably with the objective of reaching the finish line of the 2020 Mille Miglia, which it successfully did under starting number 375. Its Mille Miglia eligibility Registro, valid through June 2026, still accompanies the car. The current owner acquired it in 2021 and has maintained it with the utmost care, notably at Heritage Motor Cars, with invoices from 2023 and 2024 included in the file. The Alleggerita benefited there from a major service, including the installation of five new Michelin tires. It has not been driven since. Favorable and regular technical inspection reports from 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2022 are also included in the file, alongside its FIVA Identity Card issued in 2023. In addition to the rich history that accompanies it and its eligibility for numerous events, this Alleggerita is offered with a substantial assortment of spares, including a second gearbox, a second Sprint Veloce engine block, camshafts, an oil pump, rear light lenses, front headlights, new shock absorbers, rear axle flanges, brake drums, as well as suspension arms and hubs. It should be noted that the lower engine sealing will be carried out after the sale at the seller’s expense.
