Chassis No. WP0EB091XKS173253 Engine No. 64K05655 Transmission No. 1K03814 To celebrate both the 25th anniversary of the 911 and the final year of the beloved G-Model, Porsche unveiled the limited-production 1989 911 Speedster as a striking tribute to the original 356 Speedster and a bold statement in its own right. First previewed as the Speedster Studie at the 1987 Frankfurt Motor Show, the production version retained the concept’s raked wraparound windshield, double-hump clamshell tonneau cover, and exciting minimalistic character. Though based on the Carrera 3.2, most Speedsters were constructed using the Turbo’s wider bodywork, giving the car an aggressive stance accentuated by Turbo-width 16-inch Fuchs forged alloy wheels. Power came from Porsche’s 3.2-liter air-cooled flat-six, mated to the refined G50 five-speed manual transmission delivering a visceral top-down driving experience. Chief designer Tony Lapine ensured the styling carried cues from the 356 while remaining true to the modern 911 form. Completed in June 1989, this 911 Speedster dates from the closing months of production. The under-hood options sticker specifies “908” Grand Prix White, a color originally reserved only for the 1973 911 Carrera RS and a “LE” Black leather interior. The car is presently upholstered in tan leather with a matching tan top, a color combination it appears to have carried since new. Optional equipment includes a Blaupunkt Reno radio, short shifter, and Grand Prix White–painted Fuchs wheels, along with the rear storage compartment fitted in place of rear seats to accommodate the Speedster’s distinctive clamshell cover. Notably, option code 900 identifies the car as a Tourist Delivery example. A clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report first documents the Speedster in California in 1991 showing just 1,302 miles. Long regarded as a collectible Porsche, it has remained a low-mileage example throughout its life. The original owner parted with the car in 2014 having added just 8,615 miles. The Speedster is accompanied by a history file containing service records from Porsche of South Shore in 2015 and Porsche Plano in 2017. Exceptionally well preserved, it is further supported by its factory-issued Certificate of Authenticity confirming its numbers-matching 3.2-liter air-cooled flat-six and G50 manual transmission. Previously sold by Broad Arrow Auctions at last year’s Amelia Auction after long-term ownership dating to 2018, it has since been invited to Luftgekühlt 11, held in Durham, North Carolina, last fall and features a recent inspection with small repairs cnducted at Porsche Jacksonville (formerly Brumos Porsche where it received its Porsche Classic Technical Certificate (CTC) confirming its matching numbers status. The invoice for the work and CTC are on file and available for review. At the time of cataloging, the Speedster shows just 8,837 miles and is offered with books, air pump, a HEPP medical kit, and a clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report as both a blue-chip collectible and a standout air-cooled 911 from the final year of G-Model production.
