Arguably the world’s most beloved sports car, the Porsche 911 is almost unmatched in its breadth of ability, equally at home on the daily commute as it is fighting for a podium at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. For enthusiasts, it remains the ultimate proof that timeless design and inspired engineering can meet almost any challenge.
Few companies have honoured the air-cooled 911’s heritage with such obsessive attention to detail as Singer Vehicle Design. Founded in Los Angeles in 2009, Singer is celebrated worldwide for its bespoke restorations of 964-generation 911s, each one painstakingly “reimagined” to capture the best elements of every era and reborn as a jewel-like machine.
Through Singer’s Classic Study programme, owners could tailor everything from drivetrain and gearbox choice to high-output, hand-built engines and near-limitless specification options, with extensive use of carbon-fibre delivering significant weight savings. Every commission is entirely unique, and with Classic Study order books closed for over two years and production capped at 450 cars, these models have become more coveted than ever.
This exceptionally special left-hand-drive Singer Classic Study example, which we are delighted to offer for sale, was ordered new in 2019 by four-time IndyCar Series Champion Dario Franchitti.
Appropriately named the Indy Commission, the car remains faithful to the purest driving experience possible, with power delivered exclusively to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox. In terms of performance, the Indy Commission was the first example to be fitted with the Porsche Motorsport North America 4.0-litre naturally aspirated engine, with fewer than 30 cars believed to have been specified with this unit. Further performance-focused options include Öhlins suspension, Brembo big brakes, ceramic engine plenum, black ceramic exhaust tips, and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres.
Cosmetically, this is where Dario’s vision truly came to life. After many hours of careful consideration, a final colour was chosen for the carbon-fibre bodywork: a deep metallic brown, created as a one-off shade and later named Dixon Bronze, a tribute to Dario’s close friend and fellow IndyCar Champion Scott Dixon. A sunroof, body-coloured bumperettes, brass Singer badging, black brake callipers, and Porsche Gold Metallic Fuchs wheels complete the beautifully resolved exterior.
Inside, the Indy Commission features beautifully soft beige Connolly nubuck, paired with contrasting Espresso and Desert Tortoise leather, and finished with cream stitching throughout. Additional interior options include carbon-fibre track seats, perforated seat-inserts, body-coloured seatbacks, rear-seats, Ivory headliner, a Prototipo Alcantara steering wheel, air conditioning, Classic PCCM nav & stereo with Apple CarPlay, black dials, and a diamond-quilted leather trimmed engine bay & front boot.
The result is an exceptionally balanced and thoughtfully curated specification. A car that is subtle enough to slip under the radar, yet immensely capable when called upon.
Completed in late 2021, the car arrived in the U.K. in February 2022 and was promptly sent to Topaz Detailing for full paint protection film coverage to ensure it remains impeccably preserved. Later that year, it was showcased alongside Singer at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, where Dario’s brother and Singer’s Chief Development Driver, Marino Franchitti, expertly guided it up the hill.
Those familiar with Dario will know his attention to detail is second to none. Since taking delivery, he has made a small number of subtle refinements to better suit U.K. roads, including fitting slightly softer springs and commissioning a new set of wheels that are an inch narrower on the inner edge. This helps improve compliance over bumps without compromising the iconic deep-dished appearance.
Now U.K. registered, the car presents in superb condition, reflecting the pride and care Dario applies to every vehicle in his collection. It has covered just over 2,500 miles and is supplied with two keys, a car cover, charger, and an extensive history file containing a selection of invoices, MOT certificates, and Singer’s build photographs.
With Singer’s Classic Study order books having closed two years ago and production now wrapping up, the Indy Commission represents a rare opportunity to acquire a low-mileage, meticulously maintained example of the model that established the brand’s formidable reputation, finished in an outstanding, deeply considered, and highly distinctive specification.
