The Maserati MC12 GT1 was a purpose-built race car developed in the early 2000s to return Maserati to top-level international GT racing, based loosely on the road-going MC12 and sharing its Ferrari Enzo–derived carbon-fibre chassis and naturally aspirated 6.0-liter V12. Homologated for the FIA GT Championship, the MC12 GT1 debuted in 2004 and quickly became one of the most dominant GT race cars of its era, renowned for its long wheelbase, exceptional aerodynamic efficiency, and reliability. Campaigned most successfully by Vitaphone Racing, it secured multiple FIA GT Manufacturers’ and Drivers’ Championships between 2005 and 2010, as well as numerous race wins, cementing its reputation as a modern GT racing legend and a key chapter in Maserati’s motorsport revival.

In 2005, this Maserati MC12 GT1 campaigned by JMB Racing established itself as a front-running contender in the FIA GT Championship and international endurance racing. Driven primarily by Andrea Bertolini and Karl Wendlinger, the car achieved an overall victory at Magny-Cours, confirming the MC12’s competitive credentials at the highest level. Further highlights included a second-place overall finish at the Spa 24 Hours with the addition of Philipp Peter, as well as podium results at Brno and Oschersleben. Regular top-five finishes throughout the season underlined both the pace and consistency of JMB Racing’s Maserati entry, with the team finishing second overall in the FIA GT1 Team Championship and Bertolini and Wendlinger securing joint third place in the drivers’ standings.

In 2007, the Maserati returned to FIA GT competition under the JMB Racing banner with a new driver pairing of Peter Kutemann and Dick Waaijenberg. Throughout the season, the car was a regular finisher in championship rounds across Europe, including Monza, Silverstone, Bucharest, Brno and Zolder. The campaign concluded with JMB Racing classified 11th overall in the FIA GT1 Team Championship.

In 2008, JMB Racing’s MC12 GT1 enjoyed a renewed period of competitiveness with drivers including Ben Aucott, Alain Ferté and Stéphane Daoudi. The season featured multiple strong top-ten results in FIA GT Championship events and culminated in a fourth overall finish at the Spa 24 Hours against a deep GT1 field. The year concluded with JMB Racing finishing eighth overall in the FIA GT1 Team Championship, reaffirming the car’s endurance racing pedigree and competitive standing.

The MC12 GT1 competed at the highest level from 2005 to 2010. JMB Racing’s chassis 008 stands as the fifth most-raced example among the 11 MC12 GT1s built, recording 28 race starts across three competitive seasons in the FIA GT Championship. Its record includes five podium finishes, highlighted by an overall victory at Magny-Cours in 2005, as well as strong performances at the prestigious Spa 24 Hours, finishing second in 2005 and fourth in 2008.

It sits today in outstanding condition, presented in its original racing livery. Over the past few years, the car has been actively campaigned at numerous Peter Auto historic events, including the Le Mans Classic, Imola Classic, and Mugello Classic, achieving multiple class victories along the way. Highly eligible and still exceptionally competitive, it remains a formidable GT1 racing car. Contact us now for more information or to arrange a viewing.
