Towards the end of the E24's life, BMW introduced a limited edition (factory code Package 129) for the UK market. Based on the 635 Highline they were known as the 635 CSi Motorsport Edition and equipped with most of the visible performance features of the M635. The comprehensive specification included Shadowline exterior trim, electric sunroof, rear-seat head restraints, tri-colour M-sport labels, graduated tinted screen, memory electric seats, air-conditioning, electric mirrors, headlight wipers, rear spoiler, leather-trimmed steering wheel, and a rear window blind. The interior featured hand-stitched Nappa leather on the seats, door panels, centre console, glove box, roof lining, sun visors, door pillars, upper door trim, and dashboard.

The Motorsport cars were only available in three colours and this splendid example is one of 60 finished in Macao Blue over an impressive white Nappa Lotus leather interior. It was first registered on 12th April 1989 when purchased by its first lucky owner, a Mr M Mutchinson. Our vendor acquired the car on 4th August 2022 from respected Classic Car specialists Avantgarde Classics Ltd of Tamworth, having been serviced and MOT-tested prior to collection, and since then, it has been carefully maintained, with attention paid to both originality and mechanical condition. Recent work includes: November 2023 – Two new tyres (Michelin TRX to original size), April 2024 – full service plus new master cylinder, suspension arm, front brake hoses, and anti-roll bar link fitted, June 2024 – four-wheel alignment, April 2025 – two rear Pitman arms fitted, new petrol cap, new battery and two further new tyres (Michelin TRX to original size), December 2025 – service and handbrake pivot pins.

The service booklet is present within the book pack, detailing the original PDI in April 1989 and displaying a further 20 stamps, all except one from main dealers or BMW specialists. Accompanying the car are invoices going back to 1992, covering regular servicing and consumables typical of a car from 1989 that has covered c.56,000 miles, the only exception being the engine cross member (subframe) which was fitted in 2008 at c.45,000 miles, a known area of corrosion on the E24.

It's supplied with a blue car cover, a battery conditioner, and a detailed history file containing MOT certificates going back to 2006 at 26,435 miles with a consistent and gradual increase to the most recent recorded mileage of 56,670 miles. It's on offer from four years current ownership with five former registered keepers and the current MOT is valid until May 2026 and was issued with no advisories.

This smart example of BMW’s flagship grand tourer is offered in a stylish colour combination, with modest mileage and a detailed history file, representing the very best of BMW’s late-1980s Motorsport-influenced Grand Touring heritage and we invite and encourage your viewing at our Race Retro Sale in February.
