Unveiled in September 1973, the Beetle Jeans Edition was intended to spice up the old Bug's image, to appeal to a younger audience, helped by its association with the hippie movement and surf culture of the 1960s. Volkswagen's design was, by then, 35 years old, and while in hindsight there were plenty more years of production to be had, Volkswagen was conscious that the model needed a shot in the arm to ensure continued popularity.

All Jeans Editions were painted in the very evocative 'Tunis Gelb', while the previously chrome-plated elements on the standard Beetle were painted black. The Jeans also features a black decal along the side, with a very 70s 'Jeans' script. More importantly, it gained the denim interior with yellow stitching that gave this limited edition its name. These elements all conjure images of beachside sunsets and surfing, exactly the notes the Stuttgart marque was trying to hit.

This example is in fabulous condition and has had just three owners since rolling off the production line in 1974. Showing 60,767 miles on the clock, there are plenty left to be enjoyed by its new owner, whether they be in the Midlands or Monterey. Our vendor has owned the car since 2020 and unfortunately doesn't get the opportunity to enjoy it enough, hence the sale. He assures us of its originality, and its mileage, which is verified by its MoT history. Now MoT test exempt by virtue of its age this delightful example is offered without reserve, this Jeans Edition Beetle is perfect for Summer, and ready for its next owner.
