  • During the mid-1970s, Ducati ushered in a major technical evolution of its V-twin range with the introduction of the second-generation ‘square case’ engine. First seen in the 860GT, the new unit was far more than a simple capacity increase, incorporating a redesigned camshaft drive, improved oil pump, cartridge-type oil filter, and electronic ignition. Practical updates included a left-hand gearchange and revised frame geometry allowing chain adjustment at the swinging-arm pivot, while cycle parts were standardised across the range with Ceriani front forks, Marzocchi rear suspension units, and Brembo braking.
  • The 860GT was soon offered with electric start, a feature that became standard on the 860GTS in 1976. Further refinements, particularly to the electrical system, followed with the introduction of the 900GTS later that year. Despite the new designation, engine capacity remained at 864cc, with the emphasis firmly on improved usability and long-distance capability rather than outright change in performance
  • This 1979 Ducati 900GTS was supplied new to a Mr D Bell of Walton-on-Thames, who owned and enjoyed the motorcycle for four decades before selling it to Robin Haigh in March 2019. Over that time, the Ducati covered approximately 50,000 miles and was clearly cherished rather than merely used. Mr Bell was a regular visitor to the Isle of Man TT, and the bike is offered with twin panniers adorned with period TT stickers accumulated over the years, a charming detail that speaks of its touring history
  • Remarkably original throughout, the Ducati is accompanied by its original Ducati warranty booklet, a selection of expired MOT certificates, and the V5C. A handsome, practical, and increasingly collectible sporting tourer, this 900GTS represents Ducati engineering at its most usable and refined, offering originality, provenance, and real-world character in equal measure
  • Not used for a few years so will require recommissioning prior to a return to the road
