Introduced in 1963, Chevrolet's sensational new Corvette Sting Ray (factory designation C2) represented a quantum leap for America's favourite sports car, both technically and in terms of its dramatic looks and featured a new ladder-type chassis designed by Zora Arkus-Duntov combined with stunning bodywork penned by Larry Shinoda for Bill Mitchell's styling team. Initially sold with the classic 'small-block' 327ci V8 under the elegant bonnet, the C2 was a significant improvement over the earlier cars thanks to independent suspension all-round, the much stiffer box-section frame and from 1965, the addition of disc brakes at each corner.

This C2 Sting Ray Convertible was built in December 1965 in the St Louis factory, finished in Tuxedo Black over a black interior and as a 1965 model, benefited from the introduction of 4-pot Kelsey Hayes ventilated discs all round. The specification is impressive and includes a 327ci 350bhp V8 (HV suffix) mated to a 4-speed manual transmission, Positractraction (LSD) axle, teak wood telescopic steering wheel, and a factory-supplied hard top.

This stunning example, fresh to market from long-term ownership in a private collection, is undoubtedly one of the best C2 Corvettes in the UK and has been kept dry stored in an air-controlled unit and serviced and maintained by the collections own engineer, being started and moved regularly. It presents really well with tight shut lines, a decent depth of paint, an excellent interior, tidy engine bay and absolutely looks the part sitting on big alloys wearing decent Cooper Cobra Radials.

Having arrived from USA in 2014, the car's records describe it as having only one keeper in the US and four over here in the UK, however, this document has been mislaid and the only documentation with the car is its current V5C and some older MOTs. That may not matter in reality as, can be seen from our images, it appears in excellent overall condition. The odometer displays 53,106 miles which, although not warranted, feels about right given its super condition.

Although later generations of Corvette became more technologically advanced, none have quite managed to capture the style, presence and driving pleasure of the original 1963-67 Sting Rays and we welcome and encourage your inspection of this classic piece of sixties Americana.
