- The BMW R60/2 represents the final and most developed iteration of BMW’s classic Earles-fork flat twins, a design that had become synonymous with durability, refinement, and long-distance capability. By the mid-1960s, the /2 series had reached a high level of maturity, blending conservative engineering with exceptional build quality and ride comfort.
- Manufactured by BMW, the R60/2 featured the marque’s air-cooled, horizontally opposed 600cc twin-cylinder engine, tuned for smoothness, longevity, and strong mid-range torque rather than outright speed. The Earles-type leading-link front fork and swinging-arm rear suspension endowed the R60/2 with excellent stability, particularly under braking, and made it equally suitable for solo riding or sidecar use.
- This particular example dates from 1967 and was imported and first registered in the UK in July 2016. While little is known of its history prior to importation, the motorcycle has clearly benefitted from restoration at some point and today presents as a tidy and appealing machine. The engine kicks over with good compression, indicating a sound mechanical foundation.
- Offered in good overall condition, this R60/2 would make an excellent candidate for sympathetic recommissioning, light further use, or inclusion in a quality collection. A fine example of BMW’s enduring post-war engineering philosophy, it remains one of the most usable and respected classic motorcycles of its era.
