Beginning as a Polar White (149) SL 600, this SL soon entered the rarified world in Affalterbach at the hands of AMG shortly after completing production. Its factory option codes show it was specified with multi-contour seats, xenon headlights, the AMG styling package for the front spoiler, side skirts, and rear apron, shell modification for AMG wheels, and staggered, two-piece 8.5x18 front and 10x18 rear AMG wheels. These options were ordered in advance of its trip to Affalterbach, where AMG replaced the standard 394-horsepower 6.0-liter V12 with the upgraded, potent 500-horsepower 7.0-liter AMG-tuned V12.

Once AMG completed the work, the SL was shipped to Japan, where its CAR VX Vehicle History Report shows it was first registered in December 1996 in the Shinagawa prefecture of Tokyo. The car remained in Tokyo through 2012, accruing 37,100 kilometers, or just over 23,000 miles, as noted on 18 April 2008, and increasing to 41,400 kilometers, or just under 26,000 miles, on 22 April 2010. Last registered in Tokyo on 22 December 2011, the AMG was exported in late 2012 to a prominent collection in Abu Dhabi, where it remained until it was imported to the United States in 2022.

After arriving in the U.S., the SL 70 received its AMG Classic Conversion Certificate, issued on 1 August 2024 after inspection, physical verification, and research in the Affalterbach archives by AMG Classic and MKB Manufaktur. In 2025, the car received service to its soft top and hydraulic suspension systems by the consignor's in-house workshop along with a set of fresh Michelin tires. Finished in dashing Polar White (149), this AMG includes a rare, highly sought-after color-matching panoramic hardtop, offering a sleeker roofline and nearly unrestricted views while maintaining the composure of a closed coupe. With just over 46,000 kilometers or 28,000 miles at cataloging, this exceedingly rare SL 70 AMG remains a prized find among AMG collectors today. Combining the AMG-crafted 7.0-liter V12 with low-mileage originality and the added appeal of the panoramic hardtop makes this the ultimate AMG offering when new and should be included in any collection featuring the rarest AMG models examples ever produced.
