Arriving four years after the 458 Italia, Ferrari's 458 Speciale debuted for the 2013 model year as the most focused and exhilarating expression of Maranello's mid-engine V8 platform. While its exterior closely resembled the standard car, the Speciale incorporated a suite of engineering revisions and lightweight materials intended to sharpen every response. As Road & Track aptly noted, it was ''designed to help ordinary drivers do extraordinary things.''
Behind the driver sat Ferrari's F136 4.5-liter V8, reworked with upgraded internals and a 14.0:1 compression ratio, enabling a screaming 9,000-rpm redline and establishing, at the time, the marque's most powerful naturally aspirated V8 to date. Complementing the engine was a comprehensive set of chassis and aerodynamic developments, including active aero surfaces, Side Slip Control system integrating the adaptive magnetic dampers, F1 dual-clutch gearbox, and E-Diff to deliver a Fiorano Circuit lap record of 1 minute, 23.5 seconds-1.4 seconds faster than the legendary Ferrari Enzo on the 1.86-mile circuit.
Chassis number 211323 was delivered new via Boardwalk Ferrari (now Ferrari Dallas), as confirmed by a digital copy of its original window sticker. It was strikingly specified in Rosso Corsa with an optional Nero (Black) roof-a $11,811 selection-over Alcantara Nera upholstery with Rosso seat inserts. Notably, it was ordered without the launch livery's familiar NART racing stripe, a subtle “stripe delete” that lends the car a more understated appearance. Desirable factory options included extensive exterior carbon fiber, comprising the front flaps, engine cover, and rear diffuser, as well as yellow brake calipers, titanium exhaust pipes, Adaptive Frontlighting System (AFS), and the must-have Suspension Lifter.
