An iconic example of British motoring, this 1960 MGA Roadster Special captures the elegance and charm that made the MGA one of the most beloved sportscars of its era. This one-of-a-kind Roadster is powered by a refurbished, tuned and balanced 1.9 litre MGB engine built to fast-road specification, paired with a five-speed Type-9 gearbox, delivering a lively yet tractable driving experience. The car boasts a distinguished period competition history and is built around a steel tubular frame, typical of 1950s and 1960s racing cars, mounted to the standard MGA chassis and running gear, ensuring ease of maintenance and access to readily available classic MG components.

The car features bespoke, hand-rolled aluminium bodywork and a removable hardtop secured with discreet fixings, painstakingly fabricated from scratch by renowned specialists MJS Panels over a five-year build period, requiring approximately 5,000 hours of skilled craftsmanship. The estimated cost to replicate today would exceed £140,000. The unique, bespoke hand-formed aluminium bodywork is inspired by the rakish lines of post-war competition cars.

The donor MGA was stripped of its heavy original steel bodywork, with the chassis strengthened as required. English wheel-formed aluminium panels create swooping, curvaceous lines, finished with a signature bumper-less Kamm-tail rear, giving the car a devilishly handsome stance. Inside, bare aluminium panels are combined with custom leather sports seats with tilting backrests, creating a striking cockpit. Period details include a riveted Moto-Lita wood-rimmed steering wheel, engraved switches, an antique chrono stop-clock, bullet-style aluminium wing mirrors, a Le Mans-style fuel filler, bonnet-mounted Perspex bug-screen, and 16” wire wheels shod with period-correct Blockley tyres.

Finished in a lustrous racing red, the paintwork accentuates the aluminium body's delicate curves. Fully road-legal, the car's lightweight construction and enhanced engine deliver performance markedly superior to that of a standard MGA, while twin stainless-steel exhausts provide a rich, evocative soundtrack under acceleration. This example combines stunning craftsmanship with an exhilarating, road-going driving experience. A genuinely rare and beautifully executed motorcar, it is equally a work of automotive artistry and a true driver's car. Supplied to auction with a V5 registration document, keys, restoration photographs and paperwork. Consigned by Baljit Singh
