Description and history

This 1962 Triumph TR4 is a highly attractive example thanks to its documented provenance, originality, and preserved condition.

Originally registered in the United States under license plate NV89119, it was imported into Italy in 1990 and officially registered in Parma in 1992, retaining the same number plate and registration documents ever since.

The first Italian owner kept the car for 13 years; between 2005 and 2007 it briefly belonged to a second owner before joining the collection of the current seller, an enthusiast with numerous vintage cars and motorcycles, who has preserved it for 18 years.

Between the 2021 inspection and the current one (valid until June 2026) the car has covered fewer than 30 km, a clear sign of extremely limited use—one of the reasons for its reluctant sale.

Historic certifications and documentation

The car comes with valuable documentation confirming authenticity and provenance:

1990 - Factory technical specifications certificate

Required to obtain Italian road registration.

1992 - British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate

It confirms:

production in November 1962;

shipment to the United States on 20 November 1962, destined for the Los Angeles branch of the Standard Triumph Motor Company Inc.;

original factory equipment, including:

60-spoke wire wheels

overdrive

heater

sun visors

tonneau cover

1993 - ASI homologation with Targa Oro

The highest ASI certification, attesting to accuracy and authenticity.

Technical features of the TR4

Designed by Giovanni Michelotti, the Triumph TR4 introduced important advancements:

2,138 cc four-cylinder engine

approx. 100 HP in standard form

4-speed manual gearbox with optional overdrive (present on this car)

ladder-frame chassis with steel body

independent front suspension

front disc brakes

rack-and-pinion steering (advanced for its time)

Around 40,000 units were produced between 1961 and 1965, but fully documented, original examples like this one have become increasingly rare and desirable.

Overall condition

The car is in good running condition, as confirmed by the latest inspection in June 2024.

However, due to the minimal use in recent years, standard maintenance work is recommended before returning it to regular road use with complete confidence.
