Within the world of Ferrari there are examples that are later transformed by renowned specialists, resulting in recreations that develop a reputation of their own among collectors. This is certainly the case with this Ferrari 250 “TR” Testa Rossa recreation, built on the basis of a 1961 Ferrari 250 GTE and created by Ferrari specialist Neil Twyman. Within Ferrari circles this car is often mentioned as one of the most recognized recreations based on the 250 series, largely due to the combination of original Ferrari components, traditional coachbuilding and its distinctive technical configuration.

Twyman established himself as a respected name among Ferrari enthusiasts. His projects are known for their technical depth and the use of original Ferrari components. This specific example, often referred to as the “TR GT”, was developed by Twyman as an interpretation of Ferrari's legendary 250 Testa Rossa racing cars from the period between 1957 and 1961.

The project began with a 1961 Ferrari 250 GTE. The car was completely dismantled before an entirely new build followed. During the process period correct Ferrari parts were used, combined with a newly designed body that was crafted by hand according to traditional methods. The bodywork was hand formed and the result is simply breathtaking.

The design includes subtle references to several historic Ferrari models. Elements inspired by early Ferrari competition cars and sports prototypes are clearly visible, including references to Ferrari Le Mans cars such as the 206SP. The asymmetrical cockpit behind the driver and the open wheel arches reveal a clear racing influence. The side exit exhaust system and the removable hardtop further contribute to the character of this remarkable creation.

Technically the project also features a striking choice. The well known 3.0 liter Colombo V12 engine was not placed in the traditional front position but relocated into a mid engine configuration. The result is a construction that is clearly focused on driving experience. And this Ferrari delivers that experience in abundance.

The final result is a unique Ferrari, built with a clear vision and an exceptional level of detail. Since its completion the Ferrari has changed ownership several times and has appeared at a number of events within the classic motorsport world. This remarkable Ferrari has also been seen at the Goodwood Revival, where some of the most significant historic racing cars gather.

This is therefore a Ferrari with a character all its own. The compact proportions, the powerful V12 engine and the overall quality of the build create a driving experience that clearly reflects the spirit of classic Ferrari competition cars.
