This 1972 Pontiac Grand Prix Convertible began life as a hardtop before undergoing a professional convertible conversion. The project started in 2007 and was completed in 2014, with extensive documentation including photos and receipts covering the entire build. Since Pontiac never produced a factory '72 Grand Prix convertible, this one-of-a-kind creation stands out as an exceptionally rare custom.

Finished in a glossy ripple-black base, the paint has a deep shine that pairs perfectly with the stock wheels, redline tires, and a tasteful red pinstripe that runs the length of the car. The black canvas convertible top complements the look nicely. Brightwork is in excellent condition, including the front grille and both front and rear chrome bumpers. All badges, tailpipes, bodylines, and panel gaps appear correct and well aligned. The quality of the conversion is impressive-unless you knew these cars well, you'd never guess this Grand Prix didn't leave the factory as a convertible.

Inside, the black interior is clean and largely original in appearance. The vinyl seats, door panels, carpeting, and dashboard are all in very good condition. A stock center console houses the original-style floor shifter, and the factory steering wheel sits ahead of an easy-to-read gauge cluster. The AM radio remains in place and still plays through the single factory dash speaker. Tucked behind the center console is an 8-track player, an option that would have been period-correct equipment in 1972. In the trunk, you'll find a matching spare wheel and tire along with a fire extinguisher. Overall, the interior maintains a very authentic, original feel.

Under the hood, the engine bay remains mostly stock and nicely detailed, right down to the correct Pontiac blue engine paint. Power comes from what is believed to be the original 455 cubic-inch V8, reportedly upgraded with a mild cam. A stock intake manifold carries a 4-barrel Quadrajet carburetor. Power is routed through a TH400 3-speed automatic transmission to a 12-bolt rear axle with 3.07 gears. The car rides on stock-style suspension enhanced with QA1 adjustable coilovers. Pontiac Rally II wheels sit at all four corners, backed by front power disc brakes and rear power drum brakes. For a smooth tone, the engine breathes through stock-style manifolds, dual exhaust, and aftermarket mufflers.
