The DB6 was the final and most refined of Aston Martin's elegant 1960s grand tourers. Sporting enhanced aerodynamics over its predecessor, the resulting engineering and design brief raised the DB6's roofline by 25 mm, improving rear headroom and lengthening the wheelbase by 95 mm, creating additional legroom for rear passengers. The open-top variant, the DB6 Volante, was unveiled at the 1966 London Motor Show and replaced the outgoing “Short-Chassis” Volantes built on the final run of DB5s with a true, purpose-built four-seater convertible.

One of just 140 examples produced, this 1968 Aston Martin DB6 Volante was ordered new on 17 July 1968 and finished in Platinum with a Black soft top over Black Connolly leather upholstery and matching Wilton wool carpets. A copy of its guarantee issued in May 1969 reveals that this example was further specified with the BorgWarner three-speed automatic transmission, power-assisted steering, chrome road wheels with three-ear hub caps, power operated aerial, and two lap and diagonal safety belts.

The DB6 was delivered new in November 1968 to H.W. Motors in England, one of the longest-serving Aston Martin dealers in the world. It was imported to France in April 1985 and was purchased by the current owner that December-an Aston Martin enthusiast who has cherished the car for more than four decades-taking it on countless adventures and road trips, and even proudly lending it to their children on their wedding days. Crucially, the three-speed automatic was expertly replaced with the correct period ZF five-speed manual transmission, unlocking a new dimension of tactility, engagement, and enjoyment befitting this classic Aston grand tourer.

In 2024, the DB6, retaining its numbers-matching engine and body, underwent an extensive restoration in the expert hands of Swiss Aston Martin specialist Olivier de Siebenthal totaling over €255.000. Its bodywork, running gear, mechanicals, and electrical components were all carefully revitalized. The car was repainted in its original shade of Platinum, and the interior was thoughtfully reconditioned, save for the seats and steering wheel which were left preserved with a charming patina. The DB6 was also fitted with a new black fabric soft top and vintage-style Synkra stereo.

It is now furnished with its owner's manual and maintenance books, DB6 parts catalog, and a detailed history file that includes a build sheet from Aston Martin Works, British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, documentation from the consignor's purchase of the vehicle in 1985 and invoices from its Swiss restoration in 2024.

Offered for the first time in more than four decades, this stunning 1968 Aston Martin DB6 Volante now awaits its next custodian and is fully primed for its next chapter of memorable open-air adventures. The caliber of its restorative work, from the thoughtful addition of the correct and highly desirable manual transmission to the comprehensive suite of mechanical and cosmetic refreshes, has undeniably elevated this DB6 into a blue-chip example of the model.
