Built in October 1992 for the 1993 model year, the Italian Job special editions were produced to celebrate the 1969 Michael Caine film The Italian Job. Based on the Mini Mayfair trim level, they were fitted with the 1,275cc, 50bhp engine paired with a four‑speed manual gearbox, but had the look much closer to the style of the Cooper models. The cars were offered in four colours: Flame Red (COF – BLVC818), Metallic British Racing Green (HAM – BLVC1216), Diamond White (NMN – BLVC655) and Electric Blue (NMN – BLVC997). Production is generally believed to have totalled around 1,000 cars for the UK market and 750 for Italy.
This example was first registered in the UK on 6th March 1993 and is presented in left‑hand‑drive configuration (Km/h speedo), great for hopping over to the continent or keeping at a location overseas. It may well have been one of the cars originally earmarked for the Italian market. DVLA information shows one former UK keeper, who owned the car from new until September 2009, with the current ownership continuing from that point to the present day.
The interior is described as being in good condition, and the car was reported to run and drive at the time of consignment. The paintwork presents well overall, though there are some scratches and a few small marks consistent with age and use.
A series of restoration and maintenance invoices accompany the car. In 2013, the exhaust front pipe was refitted along with several minor jobs at 59,702km. In 2014, the rear exhaust was replaced at 60,338km, followed later that year by MOT repairs including welding to the outer sill, doorstep and nearside rear subframe at 61,026km. In 2015, the rack boots were replaced and emissions adjusted at 63,065km. In 2016, the fuse holder and indicator relay were replaced at 63,267km, followed by further MOT welding to the outer sill and inner arch at 64,539km. In 2019, the sidelight connection and emissions were adjusted at 69,419km.
Earlier service invoices on file include a 2007 service at 44,389km and a 2008 service at 48,380km. Additional paperwork includes the owner’s handbook, the current MOT certificate, previous MOT certificates and the aforementioned invoices.
