The Heinkel was a microcar designed by Heinkel Flugzeugwerke and built by them from 1956 to 1958. Production was transferred under licence to Dundalk Engineering Company in Ireland in 1958. However, the licence was withdrawn shortly afterwards due to poor quality control. Production restarted in 1960, again under licence, under the Trojan 200 name by Trojan Cars Ltd. in the UK and continued until 1966.
Here is something you don’t see very often, a Heinkel, which is believed to be the De-Luxe Cruiser model. If this is your thing, we’re sure you will know what it is. This little example is finished in red will the tartan trim finished off with grey vinyl. It is in remarkably good condition considering it has been in storage for over 10 years. Before it went into storage it had an engine and chassis rebuild, and the chassis is in great condition. We have not tried to start it, although the engine does turn freely.
According to the HPi, it was registered on 20/2/1959 and is believed to be a UK supplied example, which is supported by the original buff logbook. It comes with some paperwork such as wiring diagrams, information from the Owner’s Club, some older V5s and an original workshop manual. It presents very well but as you would expect there is a little bit of patina. It has been painted and the trim is in good condition, as is the full-length sunroof, which was designed to be an escape hatch apparently (who knew?). Most of the chrome is good (a bit of polish and elbow grease may clean the rest), and it has its badges fitted and even the original wheel caps. It has an MPH speedo, again lending us to believe it was UK supplied.
The Heinkel is complete and just needs the side windows fitting, which are included along with some rubber to finish it off. There is a big following for micro or bubble cars, which is growing as they offer so much fun and cheap classic motoring. The only problem is, they are never going to produce any more of them. The solution to that is buy this one, they are so rare nowadays and prices are rising by the day, so this is the time to buy one and have some fun in your life.
