- Solid example requiring restoration
Originally introduced in 1959, the Mini revolutionised small car design with its transverse-mounted engine and front-wheel-drive layout, allowing remarkable interior space within a compact footprint. The early Mk1 models (1959-1967) are particularly sought after today, representing the purest and most collectible version of the original concept. Over the course of its long production run, more than 5.3 million Minis were produced, cementing the car’s status as a true British motoring icon.
We are delighted to offer this 1964 Morris Mini 1000, an early example of one of Britain’s most iconic small cars.
Finished in Blue with light blue vinyl seats, this example is described as being largely original, offering an excellent basis for restoration. The body is reported to be structurally solid, though cosmetic restoration will be required, with areas of visible rust present.
The odometer currently reads 55,601 miles, though this cannot be verified. The Mini is supplied with four new tyres, which are noted to be rare items.
Mechanically, the Mini does not currently start. The engine is reported to turn freely by hand, though it will not crank from the key. Additionally, the hydraulic fluid has leaked, leaving it slightly tilted.
Despite the work required, early Minis remain hugely popular with enthusiasts thanks to their simple mechanical layout, lightweight construction and enduring cultural significance. With restoration values continuing to strengthen, this example offers an appealing opportunity for a new custodian to return a classic British icon to the road.
A highly characterful restoration project and an increasingly desirable early Mini, offered at no reserve.
