  • Subject to much expenditure
  • Presents very well
  • Tasteful modifications (easily reversed)
  • A well sorted example

Here we have a very pretty RS 2000 from 1978 finished in white with the black velour interior. The RS has the standard seats and not the fishnets, but does have the clock, glovebox and vinyl door tops. It is badged as a Custom, and although we have seen Customs with standard seats before, please do your own research to confirm you are happy with the specification. It is a very good looking example with some interesting but practical modifications such as twin Weber carbs, larger exhaust, fast road cam and best of all, power steering, as the previous owner was in his elder years and found it easier to drive. The Ford is wearing number plates and a rear sticker from Polar Ford, possibly the supplying dealer, but we cannot confirm. The look is finished off with gloss black bumpers, which look superb, as well as a set of RS mudflaps.

It is sat on a set of RS-style alloy 4-bar wheels, and has the original radio, a rear spoiler and the correct stickers. The engine bay is very clean and detailed, always a good sign of a cared for example. The paperwork consists of a large collection of MOTs, a collection of invoices and receipts, as well as details of works carried out along the way.

The vendor has kindly provided the following information:

“Mk2 RS 2000 custom, last owner owned it 23 years, really nice straight car with a few subtle mods.

Drives superb, 2.1 fast road Pinto, very fresh rebuild, running on twin 48s, 5-speed recon box with quick shift complemented with power steering. Has a Cosworth disc conversion on the rear and Willwoods on the front with full Bilstein suspension. Brand new RS alloys and tyres just fitted, standard roll top interior very clean, a nice honest clean car, not a show winner but very nice.

Last owner Richard has had it 23 years and at the age of 71 has had his fun in it. It was restored just before he purchased it in 2001. The car originally belonged to Malcom Wilson, the rally driver. In Richard’s ownership it’s had a full mechanical overhaul. New brakes front and rear, all new calipers and a disc conversion on the rear axle. It’s had power steering professionally fitted.

He’s also had a full engine rebuild by John Yoemans so it’s on its original engine, now a 2.1 with a nice cam and twin 48 carbs producing approx. 180 bhp, she pulls like a train.

It’s also had a recon 5-speed gearbox and single piece fitted. Quick shift gear stick. The radio does not work, that’s the only fault I know of with the car and would happily jump in it and drive it to Scotland.”

The RS comes with a clear HPi and a current V5 and is well worth a closer look. Hopefully you will agree that this is a nice well-presented example.
