The Morris Mini Pick-up was a small utility vehicle produced between 1961 and 1983 as part of the family of vehicles derived from the original Mini. Designed by engineer Alec Issigonis and manufactured by the British Motor Corporation (BMC), the Mini Pick-up used the same compact front-wheel-drive layout as the standard Mini but replaced the rear body with a small open cargo bed. It was developed primarily for tradespeople and light commercial work, offering excellent manoeuvrability in tight urban environments while maintaining the Mini’s efficient use of space. Built mainly at BMC’s Longbridge plant in England, the vehicle had a modest payload of around half a ton and was popular with small businesses and farmers. Production continued under later companies that evolved from BMC, but by the early 1980s demand for such small utility vehicles had declined, leading to the Mini Pick-up’s discontinuation in 1983.
We are pleased to offer this 1974 Morris Mini Pick-up in green with black interior. Having only one registered keeper and spending some time on the Isle of Man, the vendor believes that it underwent significant recommissioning prior to his tenure, including an engine rebuild, new tank and fuel lines, new suspension, respray and a cabin refresh. However, there is no paperwork to support the work and potential bidders are encouraged to view and make their own assessment prior to bidding.
We think this little Mini looks rather smart in it’s khaki green paint with contrasting white roof and period-style signwriting. There are a few marks and blemishes here and there but it still presents very nicely. The brightwork is good and there is a frame over the load bed if the new owner wanted to add a canvas tilt to complete the look. It sits on wider Cooper S wheels, which look great in white and are wrapped in good quality, matching Yokohama rubber. The load bed has been rather neatly lined in ply to protect the green paint and provide some practicality.
The cabin is charming in its simplicity – this was a commercial vehicle after all – but is lifted by some nicely re-trimmed seats, piped in green to match the paintwork. The carpets look very fresh and overall it’s a lovely, if spartan, place to sit.
Minis put smiles on faces and none more so than the dinky, little pick-up. Whether you want a characterful little run-around that can cope with a visit to the garden centre or an eye-catching promotional vehicle for your business, this diminutive truck will get you noticed for all the right reasons.
Please note: When our vendor purchased the vehicle the car should have been recorded as in trade, however, he was registered as the current keeper in error. We have a letter from the DVLA confirming the error and that the vendor would be removed from the records as a keeper, thus returning it to a single registered keeper vehicle. The DVLA have retained the existing V5C and advise that a new one will need to be applied for when the car sells.
