The Saab 9-3 Aero Carlsson is a special edition of the Saab 9-3 model, introduced to honour Erik Carlsson, the legendary Swedish rally driver known for his successes in the 1960s. Launched in 2010, the 9-3 Carlsson was a high-performance variant of the 9-3 Turbo, featuring enhancements in both design and engineering. With a 2.8-litre V6 turbocharged engine, the Carlsson edition boasted up to 276 bhp, making it one of the most powerful Saab models. It was equipped with a sport-tuned suspension, all-wheel drive, and distinctive styling cues, including special badges and a more aggressive front bumper. Its limited production (only 96 produced, Erik being most well-known for rallying the Saab 96) has made it a coveted model for Saab enthusiasts, embodying the brand’s reputation for innovation and motorsport heritage, this all makes this a very special car indeed.

We are delighted to offer this 2010 Saab 9-3 Aero Carlsson in Carbon Grey with black leather interior. First registered in September 2010 and believed to have been originally run by a Saab dealer principal, it was then in the custody of its second owner for 12 years. The previous owner before this one tells us that unfortunately the owner didn’t keep all of the service details, so he has spent a sum that he estimates to be just under £3,000 on making sure it is fighting fit. He took it to renowned Saab specialist, Aeromotive in Batley, where it had a full service on the Haldex four-wheel drive system, fluid changes to the automatic gearbox, transfer casing and brakes, a replacement OSR brake caliper and a new NSR CV boot, top mount and bearing. He then changed the engine oil and filter and tells us that it has had new front coil springs, new NIVOMAT rear shock absorbers and new front brake pads and discs. His attention to detail is evident in his £650 spend on chemically stripping, straightening and powder coating the beautiful 19” Carlsson alloys which he then had wrapped in fresh rubber. It has been used for a year since, so please satisfy yourself on the condition of both. He told us that the side skirts and all the plastic inner wheel arches were removed for rust-proofing, with waterproof grease applied to the inner lip of all wheelarches.

Externally this Saab presents beautifully, the freshly refurbished wheels contrasting nicely with the dark grey paint. Despite being out of production for well over a decade, the 9-3 remains handsome particularly with the subtle body addenda that came fitted to this model. The interior is in excellent order, belying both its age and mileage. The plastics are all good, the headlining unmarked and tight and the leather seats are free from any obvious damage. Nappa leather trimming to the handbrake, door handles and instrument panel make for a very luxurious cabin. The specification for the Carlsson was extremely high, with niceties such as BOSE audio, electric memory seats in the front, auto dimming mirrors, rain sensing wipers and cruise control. Although all Carlssons were automatic, the perforated leather wheel is fitted with manual shift buttons for those more enthusiastic drives. The boot is clean and there is an alloy spare in there rather than the usual space-saver.

The Saab comes with V5C, current and previous MOT certificates, a collection of invoices and a full book pack with wallet.

Always seen as a discerning and slightly left-field choice, there remains a huge amount of affection for the Saab brand, particularly here in the UK. The Carlsson turned out to be the pinnacle of the final 9-3 generation and, having been made in such limited numbers, this makes it extremely collectible. Being a Saab enthusiast, our vendor has very much enjoyed it but circumstances require he changes it. However, don’t take our word for it, come and see for yourself, as we doubt you will be disappointed.
