We are delighted to offer this charming 1958 Austin-Healey Sprite Mk1, affectionately known as the ‘Frogeye’, one of the most recognisable and characterful British sports cars of its era.
Originally built as an export model for the USA, this example returned to the UK around 2016, where it underwent a comprehensive restoration and was professionally converted to right-hand drive. Since completion, it has covered just 1,925 miles, presenting in excellent condition throughout.
Finished in an attractive green with a well presented interior, it features an all-steel body including the bonnet, a desirable and correct detail. Additional features include chrome bullet mirrors and a leather-bound steering wheel, enhancing its classic appeal. The Sprite is supplied with weather gear and a tonneau cover, making it well suited to open-top motoring.
Mechanically, it is understood to retain its original engine, gearbox and rear axle, and has benefitted from sensible upgrades including an unleaded cylinder head, brake servo, duplex timing chain and electric cooling fan, improving usability while maintaining originality.
The history file is comprehensive and includes a V5C, invoices and bills for work carried out (including recent engine work), along with a large collection of restoration photographs supplied both in hard copy and on a memory stick. Also included are a driver’s handbook, workshop manuals, restoration guide, spare gaskets and a dust cover, as well as two sets of keys. It is noted as HPI clear.
The Sprite Mk1, produced by Austin-Healey, remains one of the most iconic British sports cars ever built, famed for its lightweight construction, simple mechanics and unmistakable styling.
A superbly presented and well-documented example, ready to be enjoyed by its next custodian.
