2018 marked the 70th anniversary of Porsche and to celebrate Porsche GB commissioned twenty special edition restorations of it’s most iconic models. It was an exercise not only in restoring these cars to “better than new” but also demonstrating that Porsche GB had the in-house capability to restore older Porsche models. All the cars were finished in special “Liquid Metal” silver metallic paint (developed for the Porsche 918 hypercar) with black interiors. They received a bare metal restoration complete with a full engine rebuild. Mixing air-cooled, water-cooled and transaxle models, the Porsche’s approach was to keep the cars as original as possible whilst adding some bespoke touches such as exclusive paint (with a subtle 70th anniversary graphic), and bespoke seat trimming in original Porsche-branded cloth. Each car also got a commemorative plaque. Of the twenty cars, ten were 986 Boxster S 3.2 models to celebrate 25 years since the original Boxster concept which appeared at the 1993 Detroit Motor Show. Some of these cars were fitted with a new “short engine block”.
We are delighted to offer this 2001 Porsche Boxster S in Liquid Metal with black cloth interior. Selected as one of the cars to be restored to become a 70th Anniversary car, it comes with its commemorative black wallet containing paint and fabric samples and a certificate confirming the following work:-

This Boxster still presents beautifully - the 918-specific paint really is a striking colour that comes alive under our saleroom lights. Most of the 70th Anniversary cars (and all the Boxsters) came with black painted wheels and this is no exception. Pleasingly, they have been kept away from kerbs and are fitted with high-quality Michelin tyres. The distinctive tailpipes signify the fitment of a Porsche sports exhaust. There is some damage to the fabric roof as you can see in the photographs. The cabin remains in lovely condition with no significant wear to any of the services. The Porsche-branded cloth on the seats is clean and undamaged. The dash has been left in original specification, complete with Becker CD-R22 stereo.
The Boxster comes with V5C, 70th Anniversary leather wallet, book pack and wallet and current MOT. The replacement service book confirms that the last service was carried out by Porsche Centre Glasgow at 93,214 miles.
Any 986 generation Boxster S is a fine driver’s car but one that has had a comprehensive restoration by Porsche itself must be the Holy Grail. Frankly, the work that has gone into this car vastly exceeds its value. We’ve been lucky enough to have sold a number of these 70th Anniversary models now (914, 924, 944 and another Boxster S) and they always attract a huge amount of attention. So, if this car catches your eye, don’t let it get away.
