Chassis No. 69258
Engine No. 30350
First registered on 3 July 1959 to banker Erich von Goldschmidt-Rothschild, this BMW 503 benefits from a known and documented chain of ownership ever since. The car was subsequently acquired by architect Hans Töpfner, a personal acquaintance of the original owner, who registered it on 28 August 1961 and retained its Munich registration “M-EC 520.” Used sparingly alongside his BMW 502, Töpfner is understood to have driven the 503 only on special occasions, including a memorable cross-country tour through Spain.
Remaining within the extended Töpfner family for decades, the car passed to his daughter-in-law, who registered it in 2000 before selling to its most recent owner in July 2003. Showing just 74,000 kilometers at that time, the car was exercised periodically through 2014, accumulating just 80,000 kilometers before entering a static collection, during which it continued to receive routine servicing.
In total, just four owners from new are recorded, and the car remains notably original throughout, retaining its factory interior with a light older repaint. Powered by BMW's celebrated V8, Germany's only production eight-cylinder of its era, the BMW 503 embodies the effortless performance and restrained elegance that defined the marque's postwar resurgence, presenting today as a carefully preserved and thoughtfully maintained example that is ideally suited for prestigious concours presentation while remaining equally at home on refined touring events.
