Chassis No. BNR34-001440

The turn of the millennium marked a watershed moment in Japanese automotive engineering, and no vehicle embodies this era's spirit quite like the 1999-2002 Nissan Skyline GT-R, colloquially known as the R34. As the final generation to carry the Skyline name, the R34 represented the culmination of a legendary lineage that began in 1969 while building on the formidable reputation of its R32 and R33 predecessors.

At the heart of this technological tour de force was the venerable “RB26DETT” engine, a 2.6-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six producing a claimed 280 PS-a figure long understood to be a gentleman's agreement among Japanese manufacturers rather than a true reflection of its capabilities. This potent engine was mated to a Getrag six-speed manual transmission, a noteworthy upgrade from the five-speed units of its predecessors. The R34 GT-R's advanced ATTESA E-TS (Advanced Total Traction Engineering System for All-Terrain) all-wheel-drive system and HICAS (High Capacity Actively Controlled Steering) four-wheel steering setup ensured that its considerable power was translated into unparalleled road-holding and cornering capabilities. Perhaps most emblematic of the R34's forward-thinking design was its Multifunction Display (MFD). This digital interface provided drivers with a wealth of real-time performance data, a feature that was nothing short of revolutionary for its time and foreshadowed the information-rich cockpits of modern supercars.

With just 11,578 units produced across all variants, the R34 GT-R represents the rarest of the modern Skyline GT-R trilogy. Rarer still are examples finished in the striking hue Midnight Purple II (LV4) like the car offered here, lending the bodywork an entrancing chromatic shift from purple, to turquoise, to blue in different lighting conditions. Chassis 001440 is among the most thoroughly documented Midnight Purple II R34 GT-Rs to have reached European shores. Manufactured in February 1999 and first registered in Japan in January 2000 to a Mr. Hayashi of Tachikawa, the original maintenance book records early inspection entries showing modest mileage, each bearing the stamp of the supplying Nissan dealer.

The accompanying NISMO warranty cards, stamped by dealer Calest Narita of Chiba in June 2002, confirm that the car was upgraded early in its ownership with NISMO LMGT4 18-inch wheels, a NISMO GT limited-slip differential, NISMO carbon B-pillar trim, and a Kansai Service front strut tower brace. Between 2004 and 2006, the suspension geometry was comprehensively rebuilt by Ikeya Formula, with six individual government-certified modification approvals covering the adjustable rear lower and upper arms, front upper links, roll-center adjuster lower arms, and traction adjuster rods. Subsequently, Hosaka Tuning Factory in Hachioji undertook a significant engine build, featuring a GReddy T88-33D turbocharger and an enlargement to 2.8 liters via an HKS internals kit with CP-Carrillo forged pistons, 700-cc injectors, SamcoSport silicone hoses, HKS ignition components, and ancillary upgrades. Shortly after being imported to the U.K. from Japan in 2022, the car was entrusted to Redline Tuning for dynamometer testing in May 2023, where it recorded a peak flywheel output of 700 PS.

The car is accompanied by a CarVX report along with its original Japanese owner's manual, maintenance booklet, NISMO warranty cards, and the complete Ikeya Formula modification dossier. It should be noted that while the car currently displays 23,261 km at the time of cataloging, a work completion report issued by Nissan Carest Zama Co., Ltd. on 21 June 2002 records that the instrument cluster was replaced at that time; the 2022 USS Tokyo auction sheet corroborates this, noting the original unit read 20,115 km at the time of replacement. Total believed mileage from new is therefore approximately 43,376 km. With its long-term Japanese ownership, comprehensive documentation, and rare color scheme, this Skyline GT-R offers an opportunity to experience the zenith of 20th-century Japanese performance engineering.
