S-Tune No. 002/14
Developed in the wake of the Skyline GT-R's production end, the S-Tune was a transformative upgrade package installed by NISMO's fabled Omori Factory and available to a select few owners wishing to bring out the full potential of their GT-Rs. As its name implied, the S-Tune (Street-Tune) featured a host of engine and chassis tuning components optimized for enhanced street driving, offering more power and torque lower in the rev range for more spirited city driving. Special NISMO components included an NISMO S-Tune-exclusive camshaft plus new turbocharger, inlet pipe, oil cooler, and Weldina NE-1 exhaust system, which helped the S-Tune's twin-turbocharged 2.6-liter inline-six produce 400 CV through a new sports clutch kit added to the six-speed manual transmission. NISMO also added special S-Tune brake pads and enhanced the suspension with their G-ATTACK kit comprised of new springs, shock absorbers, and anti-roll bars. The GT-R's looks were thoroughly enhanced with a NISMO front bumper, carbon fiber rear wing, and side skirts, plus NISMO LMGT4 18-inch forged one-piece wheels produced by Rays Engineering in a choice of three different finishes. Interior touches included a titanium shift knob and a new combination meter with a 320 km/h display and a tachometer that went up to 11,000 rpm. In total, the S-Tune was fitted with ¥3,600,000 (€19.000) worth of components from NISMO's enticing catalog.
Only 14 GT-Rs were officially converted to S-Tune specification in period and subsequently numbered by NISMO, making them the rarest R34 variants to date. The example offered here is only the second S-Tune christened by the legendary Omori Factory and is presented in stunning TV2 Bayside Blue with contrasting white wheels. Beginning life as a 2001 Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec II, this example was first registered in Japan in October 2001 according to its clean CarVX report. The car was converted to full S-Tune specification c. July 2004; verified by stampings on the chassis and motor and by warranty certificates from the factory for its array of S-Tune parts. This process notably included the installation of a new, zero-kilometer NISMO combination meter; replacing the original unit-at the time the donor car recorded 3,023 kilometers according to an Omori Factory warranty certificate. At cataloging, the odometer displays 10,977 kilometers, while a CarVX report indicates 13,800 kilometers at the time of the car's export from Japan in 2022. This discrepancy is understood to reflect the aggregation of mileage from both the original and replacement meters. Accordingly, the current reading of just under 11,000 kilometers represents distance accrued since the S-Tune conversion and is believed to be accurate.
The GT-R was further serviced and maintained by Nissan Satio Fukuyama between 2004 and 2012 according to invoices on file. The S-Tune was sold at auction in November 2022 and subsequently exported to the consignor in England, joining an impressive collection of other exceedingly rare GT-Rs.
It is furnished with operating instructions, S-Tune delivery literature, maintenance notes, and Omori Factory NISMO warranty certificates.
As one of the rarest GT-Rs in existence, the S-Tune is a testament to the R34's lasting potency even after its production ceased, yet it remains easy to enjoy as NISMO so carefully intended. This example, only the second S-Tune to emerge from the mythical Omori Factory, is a cornerstone acquisition for any serious collection of rare Japanese performance cars of the highest order.
