1985 TVR Tuscan Convertible

The TVR Tasmin Convertible is part of TVR's distinctive wedge era design language that defined the brand in the 1980s. It evolved from earlier 1980 Tasmin models, becoming more refined, better engineered and more powerful while retaining angular styling. Built in Blackpool, it used a lightweight fiberglass body on a steel backbone chassis, giving low kerb weight and lively performance. Most cars used Rover-derived 3.5 litre V8s producing about 160-190hp, with strong real-world performance thanks to low weight. The driving experience was raw and mechanical, with unassisted steering, direct shifts and suspension focused on engagement over comfort. This made it exciting but demanding at speed and on rough roads. Inside, it had a driver-focused cabin with leather seats, simple dashboard and minimal luxury equipment. Build quality varied due to TVR's small hand-built production, adding individuality to each car. Overall, it remains a distinctive classic sportscar valued for its striking looks, analogue driving feel, and lightweight engineering philosophy that defined TVR during this period in automotive history context.

This TVR Tasmin was first registered in France and was finished in white. The late 'TVR engineer' John Halstead got his hands on the car and carried out a high-quality restoration, making it a road legal track car. At the same time, he changed the colour to orange, a much better colour for a V8 powered sportscar. As a result of his expertise and seemingly never-ending knowledge, the car was runner-up in the Trevor Wilkinson Cup for best restoration. The current vendor has devoted further time and investment in this TVR, with adjustable steering and suspension. This Tasmin also has roll-over hoops, correct on/off switches and tow tags. It has rarely been used, hence the reason why the vendor is putting this 'ready to go' TVR up for sale. Due to being registered in 1985 a real added bonus is road tax and ULEZ exemption. Supplied with a V5 registration document and a good history file, is there a better way to drive in the ULEZ zone listening to the familiar burble of a V8. Consigned by Stewart Banks
