The Jaguar XJS was a luxury grand tourer produced from 1975 through to 1996 and replaced the E-Type. Although it never had quite the same sporting image, the XJS was a competent grand tourer and more aerodynamic than the E-Type. The last XJS was produced on 4th April 1996 ending its 21-year production life. The specifications of the XJS compared well with Italian cars, brisk performance and luxury in abundance; it was able to accelerate to 60mph in 7.6 seconds and had a top speed of 143mph. From July 1981, the XJS received the new High-Efficiency engine for much better economy; as a by-product, power was increased to 295bhp. To commemorate Jaguars success at the '24 Heures du Mans' in 1988 and again in 1990 a limited edition 'Le Mans' model was introduced. The Le Mans Edition model added extra leather trim, 'Le Mans' motifs to headrests and foot plates, quad headlights, 'Growler' bonnet badge, 16” 'lattice' alloy wheels and a 'Le Mans' boot badge to the package. Each of the 280 cars produced was individually numbered.

This particular example is presented in striking red coachwork complemented by a cream leather interior, both of which remain in notably fine condition. The paint retains an excellent depth of gloss, while the cabin has been carefully preserved, showing only minimal signs of wear. Maintained to a high standard with little regard for expense, this XJS Le Mans has benefited from a range of works in recent years. These include the installation of a new burr walnut veneer, replacement air conditioning compressor and clutch, a new starter motor, refreshed headlining, updated dashboard switches, and a full overhaul of the fuel injectors. In addition, the engine has been tuned and balanced, the front suspension bushes and shock absorbers renewed, along with a new exhaust system and a full set of tyres. Residing in a significant classic car collection, the vendor advises that the car performs and drives as it should. This Le Mans edition is a particularly scarce model, being one of just 280 examples produced. It is offered with a comprehensive history file, comprising maintenance invoices, previous MoT test certificates, the current V5 registration document and a fresh MoT test certificate valid until April 2027.
