In the mid-1960s BMW perceived a market for a smaller, more affordable, two-door version of its four-door New Class executive saloon. The resulting 02 series became one of the marque's most recognisable models, with the 2002 establishing a new reputation for BMW as a maker of high-quality affordable performance vehicles. One of the lesser-seen variants of BMW's 02 series, the 1802 was introduced in 1971 and was available with either the original two-door body or the three-door Touring hatchback introduced that year. The 1802 was powered by a short-stroke engine generating 90 hp from 1971 onwards. The model combined excellent fuel consumption - anticipating the impending oil crisis - with dynamic driving performance at a very favourable price. With a price tag between BMW 1602's and 2002, the 1802 appealed to a devoted community of purchasers, and a total of 83,000 were sold exclusively in a left hand drive version.

This 1975 example is presented in beautiful white paintwork - almost Old English White - with retrimmed blue leather seats, complemented by new dark blue carpets. Its original owner passed it onto his granddaughter in 1989. She then used it as a daily driver until 2003, when she moved to the UK and brought the car with her. When she did, the BMW remained registered in Munich, therefore there are no import documents. There are, however, 11 service stamps from Germany-based BMW Specialists, available on file, which estimate the mileage somewhere around 73,000 miles. The UK registration was carried out by our vendor upon purchasing it in 2022, including the NOVA and BMW Digital Birth Certificate from the BMW Group Archive. The list of work carried out by our vendor on this car is extensive and very few stones have been left unturned in its restoration. The bodywork was, in his words, remarkably good but is believed to have been previously restored. A full engine rebuild was carried out, with rebuilt carburettors, radiator, distributer, starter, clutch and alternator. Additionally, our vendor has installed new brake and clutch master cylinders, hoses, coils, battery, mid and rear exhaust, water and fuel pumps, timing chain, filters and plugs. The wheels have all been powder coated as well, making this 1802 a very enticing proposition indeed. Consigned by Charlie McCreery.
