2012 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 (L322)

“ A beautifully specified example of the best SUV ever ”
The L322 is developing something of a cult following with discerning enthusiasts starting to appreciate its compelling blend of reliability, performance, and luxury.

Background
The L322, which is the third-generation Range Rover, replaced the P38A in 2001. The first RR to be built on a monocoque chassis, it moved the model even further upmarket while retaining the off-road prowess that lies at the heart of the marque’s iconic status.

Engineered initially to accommodate BMW’s range of V8 engines, it was available with a range of five-, six- and eight-speed automatic gearboxes. Sitting on the by now well-proven air suspension, it managed to give both a variable ride height and similar axle articulation to the older, cruder live axle models.

Engine outputs varied from the BMW engine’s 282bhp all the way to the supercharged Jaguar engine’s 400bhp. For those with frugal rather than frivolous designs, the TDV8’s 100-litre fuel tank gives the oil-burner a range of around 650 miles, which makes it a fine long-range touring car.

The L405 Range Rover replaced it in 2012.

Overview
This Range Rover TDV8 has been in the seller’s care for about 18 months; as a long-time fan of the marque, he’d been looking for a good L322 for a while – and decided this one fitted the bill perfectly.

Which is hardly surprising as the diesel V8 offers the driver access to 313bhp and 516lb.ft of torque – and that torque figure is available from just 1,500rpm through to 3,000. This immense power and torque allows the 2.5-tonne vehicle to reach 62 mph in under eight seconds on its way to a top speed of 130mph.

And yet, the TDV8 will also return 30mpg+ on a run and achieve it all with enviable smoothness thanks to the eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox it’s paired with.

The odometer on ‘DN61 OWV’ still reads just 91,000, making it a teenager in V8 diesel years, and the seller has only listed it with us because he’s lost his storage space.

Estimate: £14,000 - £18,000
