Engine No. 129.980.10.021499
According to the accompanying Mercedes-Benz Datenkarte, chassis 004753 left the works in the summer of 1964 as a 230 SL Roadster finished in Schwarz (Black - DB 040) over a red leather interior (203), fitted with a four-speed manual gearbox. The car was first registered on 1 July 1964. According to the previous owner, it was originally delivered new to the United States, returning to Germany in the early 1980s.
The car's documented history begins in September 1981, when invoices place the Pagoda in the Rhineland under the custodianship of Mr. Berg of Neuwied. Berg commissioned an extensive program of refurbishment across 1983 and 1984, the highlight being a full engine rebuild at Zylku Motoreninstandsetzung of Koblenz in March 1984. By that point, the original M127 engine had been replaced with a later M 129.980 unit-number 021499-a 2.5-liter block of 250 SL specification carrying, per the consignor, the heavier crankshaft bearings that distinguish this variant from the earlier M127. A new gearbox was fitted by the KBM Mercedes-Benz the following summer in May 1985.
By early 1990, the car had passed to Stefan Dietz of Leutesdorf, who commissioned comprehensive recommissioning at Becker & Brüser of Neuwied including a new clutch, brakes, cylinder head, and a fresh TÜV, before the Pagoda moved, via Auto Hoppen GmbH of Dierdorf, to Dr. Thomas Auner of Limburg. Dr. Auner registered the car on 28 September 1990 at 68,540 kilometers, and retained it through a long, quiet custodianship, likely placed in storage.
Following a 2020 recommissioning for German historic registration, the car entered a full restoration at Mobilium GmbH of Borgholzhausen in January 2023, the results of which are evident in the accompanying photography, and has seen only sparing use since. Now beautifully rendered in Dunkelgrün (Dark Green - 268) over tan leather, the car shows 90,467 km at the time of consignment.
Offered with its Datenkarte, Fahrzeugbrief, German H-plate registration, and service receipts spanning back to 1981, this exceptionally restored W113 is ready for enjoyment.
