1970 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia
Restored by VW enthusiast, Northwest car from new.

The Volkswagen Karmann Ghia is named for its German coach builder Karmann who hand build the bodies and styling was by Italian design firm: Carrozzeria Ghia. To many classic car enthusiasts the Karmann Ghia is one of the most stylish Coupes ever to be produced with perfect front and rear overhang ratios and a beautiful tear drop shaped roof with slim pillars that create an airy greenhouse to look out of. There simply is not a bad angle on these handsome cars. The Ghia was produced from 1955 to 1974 and it remains a favorite for VW fans to collect and own all over the world.

This 1970 model year Coupe was built in September of 1969 and sold new by Mid-Oregon Motors of Bend Oregon to a Mr. Tyley Evans of Prineville, OR on December 13, 1969. The car is finished in its original color of Pampas Yellow over Black interior and has remained in the Northwest its whole life. The current owner/collector acquired the car in 2020 from a retired Boeing engineer and VW enthusiast who sympathetically restored the car along with many other V-dubs he owned over the years.

The floors are very solid with no rust through and a new 1500cc 44HP motor with dual Empi carburetors, and a sport muffler. Other mods include Empi shifter, Fuchs-type alloy wheels with 155/60/15 tires up front and 205/60/15 in the rear, the suspension is lowered, giving it a great muscular stance. Inside the car is very original looking with the black basket weave vinyl upholstery, white perforated vinyl headliner, grey carpets, and simulated woodgrain on the dash. There is a matching alloy wheel and tire for the spare mounted in the trunk. We have just changed the oil and performed a fuel system flush and replaced the filter as well as some of the hoses.

All lights, signals, horn, wipers function as designed, the clock is not currently working. The original owner's manual and service book company the car! This Karmann Ghia is great first time collector car as they are easy to maintain and there is a big support network of online parts suppliers. Get ready for lots of thumbs up and smiles from onlookers.
