- Period-looking White and Blue paintwork
In 1959, the same year the Morris Mini-Minor and the first section of the M1 opened, Ford introduced its fourth and final Anglia, the 105E. Designed by Ford Europe by Elwood Engel, it featured American-inspired styling, including a sweeping front, reverse-angle rear window, and subtle tail fins. It debuted the 997cc ‘Kent’ engine, later widely used in models from the Capri to the Fiesta, with variants produced until 2022! It had a four-speed manual gearbox (synchromesh on the top three gears), MacPherson strut front suspension, and a leaf-sprung live rear axle. It gained renewed popularity after appearing in the Harry Potter films (2001–2011).
‘SFO 627’ is a relatively early example of the 105E, first registered on 18th July 1960. It has enjoyed notably long-term ownership in the past, including an unbroken period of around 16 years up to September 2023. Inside, it has seen a refresh and appears to have recently benefitted from having the front seats re-covered and a new carpet fitted, both in Black. The wheels wear period-style whitewall tyres to add a classic continental appearance. Powered by the original 997cc Kent engine and presented in iconic saloon form, it has already been registered with the DVLA as Historic. Accompanying the Anglia is a small quantity of paperwork that consists of a current V5C and an earlier blue-style V5C, adding useful continuity to its documented past. Due to having previously carried a different registration number, the current number is non-transferable.
Evoking a wonderfully vibrant era, following on from the austere post-war period, the Anglia today is a great starter classic that is also ideal as an alternative to the Morris Minor for use by car enthusiasts or enthusiasts of the 1960s.
