Few performance Fords have attained the legendary status of the Sierra RS500 Cosworth. Developed by Ford’s Special Vehicle Engineering division as the ultimate homologation evolution of the already formidable Sierra RS Cosworth, the RS500 was created to strengthen Ford’s competitiveness in Group A touring car racing. Hand-finished by Aston Martin Tickford and produced in strictly limited numbers, the RS500 combined aggressive styling, turbocharged Cosworth performance and genuine motorsport pedigree in a manner few road cars of the era could rival.

Today, the RS500 is rightly regarded as one of the definitive homologation specials of the 1980s, with originality, provenance and documented history becoming increasingly important factors amongst collectors and enthusiasts.

Offered here is build number 195 of the 500 examples produced, identified as Build 195, Chassis #39083. Described as a standard car, this example is further enhanced by its association with the highly regarded BonkeRS Collection, one of the best-known private Collections of significant Ford RS models in recent years.

The car was supplied new on 28th September 1987 to its first owner, Hy-Fly Game Hatcheries of Preston, who retained the RS500 for many years. Importantly, the original service book remains with the car and details servicing carried out exclusively by the Lakeland Motor Company up to 43,726 miles in 1992, demonstrating careful and consistent maintenance during its early life.

Following this period, the car was reportedly placed into storage for an extended time before being acquired for the BonkeRS Collection in 2013. At that stage, recommissioning and servicing works were undertaken by The Trade Centre Wales as part of its return to the road.

The RS500 was subsequently sold from the BonkeRS Collection in April 2017 when acquired by only its second recorded owner. Prior to that sale, further servicing work had been completed in December 2016 by respected RS specialists Supreme Car Services, a name well known within RS Cosworth circles for their expertise with these increasingly valuable cars.

More recently, the car was purchased by our vendor from noted RS500 specialist, Paul Linfoot, in 2024 since when it has formed part of a private Collection. The vendor confirms that the car runs and drives well, suggesting continued careful maintenance and sympathetic use.

Importantly for collectors, the car is confirmed by the RS500 Register, further supporting its provenance and authenticity. Accompanying the vehicle is an excellent collection of original factory literature and accessories, including the original handbook pack, audio handbook, service book, original keys and the desirable original RS500 sales brochure.

As values and collector interest in the RS500 continue to strengthen, increasingly few examples remain retaining their original documentation, long-term provenance and largely unspoiled character. The combination of extended early ownership, documented service history, BonkeRS Collection provenance and RS500 Register confirmation make this example particularly appealing within today’s market.

Presented with an excellent history file and benefiting from recognised enthusiast provenance, this RS500 represents a compelling opportunity to acquire one of the most collectible and evocative homologation specials of the modern era. As ever, we encourage interested parties to inspect the car to fully appreciate its condition, originality and supporting documentation.
