2005 Bentley Continental GT

Background
Launched in 2003, the Continental GT – the first of the VW-era Bentleys – arrived at a time when Volkswagen was still smarting after being out-maneuvered by BMW. But wounded pride aside, the firm had snagged the volume, and therefore profitable, part of the Rolls-Royce/Bentley business, even if it had done so inadvertently.

Because, despite building 9,500 Continental GTs a year, demand was so great that a waiting list soon built up. And no wonder: the mighty six-litre, twin-turbocharged W12 engine develops 560bhp and 470lb/ft of torque, all channelled to the tarmac via a complex but highly effective four-wheel-drive system.

That it was swathed in body that only hinted, in the most general of terms, at the performance the car was capable of was a very welcome bonus.

Overview
Finished in Cypress Metallic with a Saddle hide interior, this Bentley Continental GT’s first owner was Sir John Auld Mactaggart, 4th Baronet, who paid Jack Barclay £121,434 for it in 2005, a hefty sum equivalent to almost a quarter-of-a-million today.

We understand that ‘B1 NWT’ was put on by the second owner - Politician Neil Turner. This plate represented his initials.

Even better, the paperwork on file for routine maintenance and repairs adds up to more than £50,000; truly, a money-no-object servicing regimen in that time.

The most recent service was by Silver Lady Bentley of Brentwood in May 2024 at 60,512 miles, and other recent work includes four new and matching tyres, rear brake discs and pads, a refitted headlining, and polishing the headlamps. As you'll see the Bentley has done nowhere near 2,000 miles since its last service.

Of course, it also comes with a long and advisory-free MoT and runs and drives flawlessly.
